Order book up 15 per cent for Volvo Penta
By IBI Magazine
Volvo Penta, the Swedish marine and commercial engine maker and part of the Volvo Group, has announced an improved order intake in its 2009 report, saying that its order book is 15 per cent higher than at the end of 2008.
The engine manufacturer does, however, outline that global deliveries of marine and industrial engines remain 'low'.
Demand in Europe flattened out at a low level, while demand in North America has 'increased somewhat'. In the rest of the world, the market was 'largely unchanged' compared to the third quarter of 2009.
Sales for the year totalled SEK8,159m ($1,094m), a drop of 29 per cent on 2008's total of SEK11,518m ($1,544m). Marine sales in the fourth quarter accounted for SEK1,223m ($164m) in 2009, compared to SEK1,487m ($199m) in 2008, a drop of 18 per cent.
Volvo Penta is currently launching the third version of its successful IPS drive system, which with multiple installations can be used on boats of 30m (100ft) and above.
