Lockwood Marine changes hands
By IBI Magazine
Georgia-based Lockwood Marine has changed ownership. Michelle and Jerry Ham, who have functioned as the deaership's CFO and president, purchased the location in Shellman Bluff, Georgia from its owner John Lockwood. The Hams had owned over 15 per cent of the company stock for four years, according to a statement. Lockwood Marine was founded in 1988, and carries the Grady-White, Regulator, Scout, Carolina Skiff and Cape Horn boat lines. The statement noted that Lockwood "intends to stay active in the marine industry". He owns the Barbour River Yacht Club, a small membership marina on the Georgia coast. His wife, Bunny, shares its management with him. Lockwood has also been very active in the US marine industry. He has served as chairman of MRAA as well as having served on the boards of ABYC, MIC and ABBRA. Lockwood Marine was also the first dealership in the US to qualify under the old Marine Industry Certification (MIC) rules. It was also in the pilot group qualifying in the new certification programme conceived by NMMA and MRAA and administered for Grow Boating by Five Star Solutions. It has been a "Top 100 Dealer" since the programme began. The Hams and the Underwoods are active in the Georgia Marine Business Association (coastal businesses), and the Underwoods also have long been members of the Metropolitan Atlanta Marine Trades Association. Before starting at Lockwood Marine in 2002, Jerry Ham had worked for the Crocker dealerships in North Carolina.
